Problems with HTC Eris – WIN 7

Having problems with HTC Sync and Win 7?

In order to get HTC Eris to speak with Windows 7 computer:

  1. Download sync tool from HTC, namely HTC Sync 2.0.33 from HTC. (Google is your friend)
  2. Install HTC Sync.
  3. Make sure to find the HTC drivers for either 32-bit or 64-bit, depending on your OS (operating system). I use 64-bit, but I was able to find both of them. (Linked on 32-bit and 64-bit: so you don’t have to look to far =), thanks to the Asylum, btw. =)

  4. Extract the driver into a folder. For example, %SystemDrive%:\Program Files (x86)\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\Vista_x64 (for the Windows 7 64-bit) or %SystemDrive%:\Program Files (x86)\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\Vista_x86 (for the Windows 7 32-bit) accordingly.  Keep in mind that if you don’t have this folder, you can go ahead and make it, I know I had to.

  5. Go to Device Manager

    4) You should be able to see the ADB with a yellow sign next to it; that means its missing a driver, that’s where you go ahead and right click on it and select “Properties”, after that, go ahead and select the “Driver” tab once there you should be able to select “Update Driver” and find the path of the driver that you downloaded from the HTC site or where ever you found it. Click “OK” and BOOM.  That’s when you can go ahead and run HTC Sync if its not running already and test it out.

  6. The HTC phone should now be displayed as “My HTC”, and will be able to sync with Windows 7 and you should be able to sync to your computer. =)

Good luck, and keep in mind, if this doesn’t work, look around the net, or go back and retrace your steps, its possible. If I can do it, you can too.

P.S. The only reason I needed to do this is to upgrade the OS on the phone, its a 77MB update and if I had not figured this out, I would have lost my contacts, so yeah, this was an important step in upgrading the phone…

Windows DVD Maker

So, I have been messing around with Windows DVD Maker, trying to get my AVI’s onto a DVD so I can play them on my DVD player of course!

But I have ran into a problem; Windows DVD Maker makes awesome DVD’s, with little menus and everything BUT, yes I said it, BUT it does not include the sound of my AVI file…

I know, I know you are all probably saying “Arturo, your missing codecs.”

But I don’t think thats the problem I am facing…I have installed Vista Codecs, and even the Community Codecs with no luck…which is pretty sad since I have gone through 5 blank DVD’s arleady =/

I have looked around and have found out that I am not the only one having this problem…it seems like everybody else that has tried to do this is having some sort of problem either it be the picture be all messed up, the menus being in the wrong place and of course, the sound not working.

But, I am not giving up yet, I will dissect the problem down to the nitty gritty and make sure to keep you all posted. (I make it sound like I have hundreds of followers, haha)

FYI: I am using Windows 7 Ultimate.

UPDATE 12-06-09:

Well, I installed the vista codecs 32 bit and 64 bit since I read that if your using 64bit you might need them, and I went ahead and activated my output audio…which for some reason was not existent which was strange…and I gave it one more shot with my last DVD and it worked.
The quality of the DVD is actually pretty good (but I guess that depends on the quality of the AVI), the menus are nice and most importantly it fixes my problem!
Thanks for the info though Sam, I appreciate it.

Arturo & Leo

This was taken from a conversation me and Leo had on Yahoo Messenger. Its really just over Windows 7 and Linux or UNIX. Whatever you want to call it, its there.

All I really have to say is to “Enjoy yourself.”

Arturo says:
check this out.
Windows and Linux.
you taking notes god dammit?
Leo says:
yep
gedit open
Arturo says:
I’m going to blog this after, so take notes.
Here I go.
Windows, and Linux… two different OS’es.
Two different people.
Leo says:
i’m with ya so far
Arturo says:
It doesn’t matter what one can do for you, or what.
What it can or can’t do.
Its about how it makes you feel.
Let me tell you something, with that said.
Its like wearing a condom, and not wearing one.
You know, what you can get when you have windows?

HIV.
You still with me?
Leo says:
yep
100%
Arturo says:
You know, with windows, you have a latex condom, you wear one.
Out doing 100000000’s of websites…you feel like a man!
The king of the world!
But you see.
With Linux, you see them too….but you don’t need a condom..
Leo says:
you have HIV antibodies
yes
Arturo says:
?
You going to let me finish or what god dammit?
Leo says:
oh do finish, sir, please do
dont let my snide remarks stop you
Arturo says:
okay, thank you.
Going on.
with Linux, you have a penis of steel, a metal…if thats easier to understand.
of*
You see, so you don’t care.
With windows, you have to go ahead and stop every once in a while and take a break…*updates* to yoru condom.
With linux, you can and can not, it wont’ matter.
Because, guess what, you have a penis of steel.
So you go about your business, but thats what an OS can do for you, its the feeling you get.
So like being in an orgy and saying you were in it…but you were just watching…
Its all a matter of what feeling you want.
Thats the only difference, its not about who can fix NTFS partitions, or who can play this and who can burn that.
Its about the feeling, the feeling you get with your normal penis, or your robocop penis.
Leo says:
actually it is
Windows is a crutch for all of humanity
get off that worthless platform, move to something open, so that EVERYbody in the world can contribute to something that’s bigger than themselves
with the minds of everybody, think of what we could come up with?
how far computing could go
how many people’s identities will still be in tact because they didn’t get it stolen
linux could be bigger and better than any Windows OS.
Arturo says:
that would be a great feeling.
but its not going to happen….is it.
Leo says:
no it wont
let me tell you why
Arturo says:
windows key, *notepad*
Leo says:
the little “quirks” that windows started introducing into vista (i’m looking at UAC) – people hated.
they hated with a friggin passion
because they had to click 1 extra button before they could install software
you know why vista was just a little more secure than xp?
UAC was a big part
now look at UAC
and look at what ubuntu and almost ALL distros make you do before you even OPEN the install manager, or do updates, or change system settings
not only does it stop you and make you think before you continue
it asks for a password
A PASSWORD
so not only do you need a password to get in
if some passerby decides to wake your laptop up from screensaver mode, he can’ change anything
he can’t install/uninstall anything
but windows users don’t see it that way
they see the 3 second interruption as a breaking point for them
well god dammit if i have to click another button to install this software, i wont do it
yeah, click that button AND type your password in
Arturo says:
So you don’t see the it as a hassle to type in your password and CLICK a button…
Leo says:
hell no i dont
it keeps malicious scripts from eating my hard drive from the inside out
Arturo says:
Well, I’ll be dammned…
Carry on.
Leo says:
your wayward son?
oh i will, you bastard
and function has been around forever
password protect everything
that piece of code right there
will fix 90% of everybody’s problems
Arturo says:
Btw, no, I’m not Kansas with their fucking rock single.
Leo says:
all i’m saying
is users are impatient pricks
that’s why linux and mac practices will never carry over to windows
i should say UNIX practices
Arturo says:
I like that Leo.
Leo says:
live by it, my son
my little puppet
Arturo says:
If its okay with you, i’m going to copy this whole convo and drop it on my blog.
You okay with that?
Leo says:
lol you do whatever makes you feel grand
i’m gonna enjoy my salami sandwich
Arturo says:
You leaving?
Leo says:
becuase that makes me feel grand
Arturo says:
LOL!
You know what makes me feel grand, you want to know?
Leo says:
no no
i’m stayin right here
Arturo says:
That I can talk to you.
Leo says:
what does
oooooooo
<3
Arturo says:
<3
I miss mah homie.
I’m eating papas con chile colorado.
Thats what makes me feel grand.
Leo says:
that his me… *sniff* right here
Arturo says:
It better hit you.
Leo says:
your papita makes me feel less than grand now
Arturo says:
Not when I tell your that their in a sandwitch lol
Leo says:
all i have is lowly cheap salami
you get scrumptiolicious food like that
i feel less than human
Arturo says:
i feel less human when i breathe…
Leo says:
you need a hug
/hug
